Moody 42

Pondlife is a year 2000 Moody 42. She's a centre cockpit design with a medium to heavy weight displacement of 10.5 tons.

She is the third Moody we've owned. Although not particularly fast, she is comfortable and looks after us when conditions get rough.

Forty two feet is, in our opinion, a good size for a live aboard yacht with shorthanded crew, especially for coastal cruising where close quarter manouvering is as much a factor as sailing performance and comfort.

All boats are compromises of one sort or another. Ours is no different. One factor we place above all others though is safety. In the many years we've owned and sailed Moody's they've never caused us to question their structural integrity or build quality. My ideal boat would be one of the Swedish ones - a Hallberg, Najad or Malo. If I win the lottery maybe I'll buy one.

Heads: Two bog standard ones and going for Porta Potti keep the Spanish and Turkish authorities sweet. Decided against full blown holding tanks on the basis of cost and effort - together with the fact that our trip has a limited time span. I accept that this might be a mistake, but take the view we can install on route if need be.

Latest additions include: 2 x 90watt salor panels with Plastimo panel mounts and custom made s/s pushpit holder for panels, Manson 20kg anchor (60m 10mm chain to 60m of 18mm nylon), bimini, LED anchor light, Navionics chart reader for laptop. Just changed saildrive seal and cam belt change. Need to get diving gear, Porta Potti and tons of odds and sods.
